“THE LISTENER”

The Listener is the second piece in my four-part series, a tribute to the elders who guided their people with quiet authority and deep knowing. In many tribes, these leaders were more than decision-makers—they were living archives, carriers of memory, and moral anchors for their communities. Their strong masculine energy was not about dominance, but about steadfast presence—holding the tribe together through seasons of both hardship and abundance.

In this work, I turn to cubism and the geometry of triangles as a visual language to reflect the human spirit. Triangles, the most stable of shapes, have long been symbols of harmony and unity. For Pythagoras, numbers and geometry were sacred keys to understanding the cosmos; for Plato, the good was the ultimate aim of human life—a pure form toward which the soul strives.

By weaving these ideas into my cubist composition, I break down form into facets, allowing the elder’s presence to emerge not as a literal portrait, but as a spiritual archetype. The angular planes are not only a stylistic choice—they are a reminder that strength and wisdom are built from many angles of experience, each one contributing to the whole.

The triangles point upward, reflecting the aspiration toward higher truths, and downward, grounding the figure in the earth and traditions of his people. In their meeting, they mirror the elder’s role: bridging the eternal and the immediate, the sacred and the everyday.

Through The Listener, I hope to capture the deep connection between human wisdom, the geometry of our world, and the timeless pursuit of the good.
