SAM

from $900.00

Original is sold / 25 Limited Numbered Editions are 2800.00 / Colorado Editions are 900.00

"SAM" – A Sacred Geometry of Spirit and Shape
BY KT, Museum Art Critic

In SAM, we encounter not just a painting, but an apparition of primal power filtered through the lens of Cubism. This striking gouache work is one of only three in which the artist chose the animal as the sole subject—and here, it is the bear, rendered with reverence and precision. The choice is far from incidental.

The figure of Sam emerges from a matrix of triangles, a compositional approach grounded in the mathematical truths of Pythagoras. These elemental shapes serve not only as the building blocks of the bear's form, but also as symbolic vessels of sacred geometry—a fitting framework for a creature so deeply embedded in mythology and the wilderness.

What makes this work exceptional within the realm of Cubism is its distilled clarity. There is no clutter, no competing subject—just the bear, broken into planar facets, yet unmistakably whole. The mind is invited to reconstruct what the eye is only given in fragments, drawing the viewer into a quiet act of creation and perception. This is Cubism pared down to its most essential, spiritual self.

The painting’s color palette is bold and alive, yet harmoniously balanced—a testament to the expressive versatility of gouache in the hands of a skilled artist. The artist, secluded in a remote part of the Rocky Mountains, was reportedly visited on several occasions by a bear he called Sam. One senses that this work is not imagined, but witnessed. It is not a portrait; it is a presence.

In a contemporary art world where true originality is elusive, SAM stands apart—not only as a technical achievement, but as a rare convergence of geometry, spirit, and story. It is a singular creation. Sacred.

Untamed.

Thanks, KT, I loved this so much I had to use it!

While the original has a home, the Limited Editions are a scarce asset, and I create these pieces by hand myself. Each numbered and signed.
